Dear Parent / Carer / Colleague,
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, focused and supportive learning environment, St Benedict’s College is reviewing its Mobile Phone Policy ahead of September 2026.
Following careful consideration of:
Safeguarding responsibilities
The impact of mobile phones on teaching, learning and pupil outcomes
Concerns regarding pupil wellbeing and mental health
The school is proposing to introduce a full ban on mobile phones in school, whereby mobile phones must not be brought onto school premises.
This proposal aligns with our commitment to:
High standards of teaching and learning
Strong pastoral care and safeguarding
The expectations outlined within the ETI Empowering Improvement Framework
We are keen to gather the views of our school community before finalising this policy.
We would therefore ask you to complete a short consultation form to share your views on:
The proposed mobile phone ban
Its potential impact on learning, behaviour and wellbeing
Any concerns or suggestions you may have
Please complete the People’s voice form by Friday 22nd June.
Please see link below.
Next Steps
Consultation responses will be carefully reviewed by the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Governors
The final policy will be issued in advance of September 2026 implementation
At St. Benedict’s College, we are committed to working in partnership with parents, pupils and staff to ensure that our policies reflect our shared values of respect, dignity and excellence.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Ms B Loughran Principal
