The inaugural Spooky Story competition sparked off the imagination of pupils at both key stages 3 and 4. The English department received a deluge of stories that ranged from mysterious to creepy to horrifying, and featured all types of ghostly, frightening creatures.
The competition received over 200 entries this year, many of an exceptional standard.
After careful consideration, and late nights spent reading creepy stories, two winners were selected by the 'Mystery Judge' and Mr. Bonnes (Head of English.)
'All these recordings..' by Naoise Johnston from 10F claimed first place in Key Stage 3 and Lavena Mc Stocker's atmospheric 'A Walk in the Forest' received the top prize at Key stage 4.
Both girls received £25 book vouchers and perhaps both girls will follow in the footsteps of Lavena's grandmother's sister, the critically acclaimed author, Bernie Mc Gill.
We thank everyone for taking part and look forward to next year. We would encourage readers of all ages to participate in the Irish Book awards. Some excellent reading for everyone over Halloween.
